What Is A Snap Score And How Does It Work?

Snapchat has had various features over the years, including Trophies, Badges, Charms, and more. One feature that’s lasted the test of time is the Snap Score. However, if you aren’t familiar with the feature, you may not understand how it’s measured or how to increase it.

The Snap Score measures how active and social users are on the app. Snap Scores are calculated on various factors and can be increased by sending photos and videos, adding friends, watching Stories, and more. You can view your score by clicking your profile icon.

Don’t worry if you have a low Snap Score or don’t understand how the feature works. Snap Scores are straightforward, and we cover everything you need to know—including how to increase your score—in the article below. Read on for more information.

What is a Snap Score?

Snapchat doesn’t give much official information about the Snap Score feature.

However, the Snap Score feature is purely cosmetic and measures how active and social you are on the platform. The Snap Score measures the following:

  • The number of Snaps you’ve sent and received.
  • The number of Stories you’ve viewed and posted.
  • The number of Discover videos you’ve watched.
  • How many users you have added.

Snapchat provides bonus points for sending Snaps to several users at once and for keeping Snapchat Streaks alive. More factors may impact a user’s Snap Score, but Snapchat has yet to release official information on how the feature is calculated.

How Do You Check Your Snap Score?

Snapchat

Fortunately, your Snap Score is readily available and easy to find. You can use the following instructions to locate your Snap Score:

  1. Launch Snapchat.
  1. Click the profile icon near the top-left corner of your display.
  1. You can view your Snap Score underneath your username and account avatar. You’ll also see additional information, like your zodiac symbol.
  1. You can also click on your Snap Score to uncover two numbers. The left-hand number is how many Snaps you’ve sent to other users. The right-side number is how many Snaps you have received.

These numbers don’t always add up to create your Snap Score, as Snapchat uses various factors to determine a user’s total calculation.

How to Find Another User’s Snap Score

You can also view a friend’s Snap Score to see how active they are on the social media platform. Here’s how:

  1. Launch Snapchat.
  1. Click on your profile picture near the top-left corner of the app.
  1. Scroll downward and select My Friends.
  1. Click the icon of any user whose Snap Score you’re interested in. You’ll see the Snap Score beneath their username and avatar.

How Can You Increase Your Snap Score?

Snapchat uses various factors to calculate a user’s final Snap Score. As a result, the number of Snaps you’ve sent and received may be less than your final score.

This is because Snapchat also uses the number of stories you post, Snapstreaks, and the friends you have added to calculate Snap Scores.

Fortunately, you can increase your Snap Score by using the app more frequently. Here are some factors to keep in mind when attempting to improve your Snap Score:

  • Your Snap Score only increases when you send photo and video messages. However, text messages sent on the app add to your final score.
  • You may not receive additional points for sending identical Snaps to multiple friends. You may need to send a unique photo or video message to receive points.
  • You may also receive bonus points when you return to Snapchat after a period of inactivity. This can be an excellent time to send photos or videos to increase your Snap Score.

What to Do if Your Snap Score isn’t Updating

It’s easy to become distraught if you’re frequently using Snapchat and your Snap Score isn’t updating in real-time. However, there are a few different reasons your Snap Score might not update, like poor internet connection and outdated software.

Fortunately, you can resolve the problem through various troubleshooting methods. Here are a few solutions you can try if your Snap Score isn’t updating.

Check Your Internet Connection

Although it might seem obvious, be sure you have a stable internet connection. You’ll need to check your WiFi is working if you’re connected. Alternatively, you can use your cellular data to access Snapchat if you have the feature enabled.

To troubleshoot your WiFi, reboot your router and modem. Then, turn off the devices for at least two minutes and reboot them.

If issues with your Snap Score aren’t resolved, you may have a local service problem and need to contact your internet service provider for additional assistance.

Update the App

Snapchat on mobile

Sometimes, Snapchat won’t automatically update, and you might be using an older version. Older software versions can have bugs or be incompatible with your device.

You can search for Snapchat on your device’s App Store to see if any updates are available. If you notice a new software version, click Download and see if the issue is resolved.

Clear Your Cache

Sometimes, issues with the Snap Score can arise from corrupted files in the Snapchat app data cache. Luckily, you can quickly clear the cache to resolve these errors. Here are the steps to remove cache data on most Android devices:

  1. Launch the Settings App.
  1. Click Apps and Notifications.
  1. Navigate to the list of applications and select Snapchat. You may need to click See All Apps to view the entire list.
  1. Select Storage and Cache.
  1. Finally, click Clear Cache and confirm your choices.

Unfortunately, there isn’t a way to clear the Snapchat cache on iPhone devices. Instead, you’ll need to uninstall Snapchat and reinstall it via the App Store.

Log in and Out of Your Account

Another troubleshooting method for Snap Score with Snapchat is to log in and out of your account.

If you can boot the app:

  1. Log out of your account by clicking your profile icon near the top left-hand corner of the app.
  1. Afterward, click the Gear icon near the top right corner and scroll down until you see the Log Out button.
  1. You’ll need to confirm your choices and log back in afterward.

Your Snap Score should be updated if the issue is resolved. If not, move on to the final troubleshooting method below.
