If you’ve accidentally turned on your iPhone’s flashlight and can’t figure out how to shut it off, you’re probably getting pretty frustrated. Don’t worry — toggling your iPhone’s flashlight off is actually very simple, and there are multiple ways to go about it.
To turn off your iPhone’s flashlight, open the Control Center by dragging down from the top right corner on either the lock or home screens. Next, simply tap on the icon that looks like a flashlight and the flashlight should turn off. The same button turns the flashlight on.
Using the Control Center is only one of three possible ways to switch your iPhone’s flashlight on and off. Let’s take a look at each option so that you’re well prepared to utilize your flashlight as needed.
How to Turn the Flashlight Off Using the Control Center
The Control Center is the most common way iPhone users toggle the flashlight on and off. This is due to the fact that the Control Center is where you can toggle many of your basic settings, and it’s really easy to use and understand.
The Control Center can also be used to toggle on and off Airplane Mode, bring up the calculator, activate Bluetooth, use a timer, and much more.
To get to the Control Center, open your phone’s home screen or lock screen and swipe down from the upper right corner to bring down the Control Center (if you have an older iPhone with a home button, you’ll need to swipe up from the bottom of the screen instead).
Once you’ve brought up the Control Center, you’ll see a number of different icons, including one that looks just like a traditional flashlight. Tap this icon to turn on the flashlight and tap it again to turn it off. It’s that simple!
How to Turn the Flashlight Off Using Siri
Another way to toggle your iPhone’s flashlight is by using Siri. Siri is Apple’s AI companion that can help you toggle on and off features on your iPhone without even using your hands.
For example, Siri can toggle airplane mode, call people, set a timer, and of course turn on and off your flashlight with a simple command.
Some iPhone users may be a little wary of the idea of using Siri because the concept of using an AI assistant seems too complicated. However, learning how to use Siri is extremely simple, and it can be a great time saver when doing things like turning off your flashlight.
To do this, all you have to do is say “Hey Siri” to activate the assistant, and then you can say your command. You can say something like “Turn off my flashlight,” and she should do exactly that. This means your full command will be: “Hey Siri, turn off my flashlight.”
Your choice of words beyond the “Hey Siri” command don’t really matter as long as your command is clear. For example, there’s no real difference between “Turn off my flashlight” and “Turn off the flashlight.” Both options should be understood.
If you want to save as much time as possible, you can even say something like “Hey Siri, flashlight off.”
How to Turn the Flashlight Off Using the Camera App
It’s also possible to turn off the flashlight by using your camera app. This method is much less popular than the previous two methods, but it can still be useful in certain situations.
The unique part of this method is that while the other two methods can be used to toggle the flashlight on and off, the camera app method can only be used to turn the camera off.
All you have to do is open your camera app and your phone’s flashlight will turn off. The reason why this happens isn’t so clear, although it most likely has something to do with the way your camera uses the flashlight for its flash feature.
If you want to turn off the flashlight quickly, just open your phone’s lock screen and swipe very slightly to the left to almost open the camera app. Swiping fully to the left on your lock screen opens the camera app, but if you only swipe a little to the left, you can turn off the flashlight without opening the app.
How to Adjust the Flashlight Brightness
This may come as a surprise to some, but it’s actually possible to adjust your flashlight’s brightness on your iPhone. To do this, we’re going to use the iPhone’s Control Center again.
To do so, open your phone’s home or lock screen and swipe down from the upper right corner to bring down the Control Center. (Again, if you have an older iPhone, you need to swipe up from the bottom of the screen.) Once the Control Center is open, press and hold on the flashlight icon.
This should bring up a slider that will allow you to adjust your flashlight’s brightness. Having the slider all the way up will make your brightness as high as possible and having the slider all the way down will dim it as much as possible.
