How To See Who You’ve Blocked On Twitter

One of the handiest features added to Twitter over the years is the Block button. Tap or click “Block” next to someone’s name, and you’ll never hear from them on the platform again. However, can you see all of the users you have blocked on your Twitter account?

Whenever you block a user on Twitter, their name gets added to a list of blocked users in your Account Settings. To see this list, select your profile picture on the home page and then select “Settings and Privacy” < “Privacy and Safety” < “Blocked Accounts.”

Now that you know how to pull up your list of blocked users, you likely have other questions. Some of the most common questions we read on this topic are “How do you block someone?” and “Does the person you block get notified that you blocked them?” So, let’s go through the topic of blocking users on Twitter in more detail to make your timeline more appealing to you.

Can You View the People Who You’ve Blocked on Twitter?

Twitter on the phone

Viewing all of the users you have blocked on Twitter is possible. Whenever you block someone on the platform, their name gets added to a list of blocked users in your account settings.

There are three different methods to view this list: a computer, an iPhone, and an Android phone. Let’s quickly go through how to open your account settings and view the list on each device.

On a Computer

Using a computer is one of the simplest ways to view your blocked user list. All you have to do is:

  1. Open your internet browser of choice and go to Twitter.com. If you haven’t already, log into the account, you want to see the blocked list on the home page.
  1. Next, on your timeline, click on your profile picture in the upper right-hand corner, and a dropdown menu should appear.
  1. In this menu, select Settings and Privacy, and this should bring you to the Settings menu.
  1. Now, select Privacy and Safety and then click on Blocked Accounts. This will show a list of every user you currently have blocked on Twitter.

On iPhone/iPad

On an iOS device, this process is also straightforward.

  1. First, begin by opening the Twitter app and logging in if needed.
  1. Then, tap your profile picture in the top left corner. This should have brought up a sidebar menu where you should select Settings and Privacy.
  1. From here, select Privacy and Safety and then Blocked Accounts. This should show you a list of every account you currently have blocked.

On Android

On an Android device, this process is pretty much the same as on iOS.

How Do You Block Someone on Twitter?

Knowing how to view which users you’ve blocked on Twitter is all good, but what use is that information if you don’t know how to block someone in the first place? So how do you block someone on Twitter?

To block someone on Twitter,

  1. Begin by either opening Twitter.com or the Twitter app on whatever device you’re using.
  1. Next, navigate to the profile page of the account you would like to block.
  1. Once you’re there, tap the icon to bring up a list of options.
  1. In this list, you should see an option that says Block. Select this option, confirm your choice, and this user will be added to your list of blocked users.

This means that specific user will no longer be allowed to contact you, view your tweets, or even follow you. If you want to cut contact with someone on Twitter entirely, blocking them is your answer.

Unblocking them is also simple if you block someone and then regret it later. All you have to do is do the same steps you did to block the other user, except instead of selecting “Block,” you choose “Unblock.”

Can You DM Someone Who You’ve Blocked?

If you’re currently on the fence about blocking someone on Twitter, one thing worth considering is whether or not you would ever need to message that person. Is it possible to Direct Message (DM) someone you’ve blocked?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to DM a Twitter user that you currently have blocked. They also can’t DM you while you have them blocked. However, that doesn’t mean it’s impossible to DM them.

All you have to do to message a user you have blocked is unblock them. You need to unblock them, message them, and once they’ve appropriately responded to your messages, you can block them again.

Does Twitter Tell People They’ve Been Blocked?

Twitter

Another thing that could keep you from blocking an annoying user is the idea that you don’t want them to know you’ve blocked them. For example, if there’s someone on your Twitter timeline you know in real life with annoying Twitter likes or posts. If you were to block this person, would they be able to find out?

The basic answer is they won’t be notified, but they can find out. So, for example, when you block someone on Twitter, they will not be given a notification letting them know they’ve been blocked. However, if they try to view your profile, they can easily tell that you’ve blocked them.

If you would like to block someone on Twitter secretly, there is a feature known as “Muting.” If you mute someone, they can still view your page, but their posts won’t appear on your timeline. This effectively makes muting like a block that the victim won’t discover.
