How To Disable Sensitive Content Settings On Twitter

Twitter, unlike many other social media platforms, allows users to post relatively sensitive or controversial content. However, users are required to mark such posts as sensitive in their settings, and the posts will appear with a warning. If you prefer, you can turn off this warning.

To disable the sensitive content setting on Twitter, go to the homepage and navigate to More > Settings and support > Settings and privacy > Privacy and safety. Then, press ‘Content you see’ and click on ‘Search settings.’ Next, tick the box for ‘Display media that may contain sensitive content.’

If you see a tweet marked as sensitive, it means that the user frequently posts NSFW content. Let’s look at what defines sensitive content and the steps to disable the sensitive content settings on Twitter so that you can enjoy your home feed with unrestricted views.

How to Disable Twitter’s Sensitive Content Warning

If the notification ‘This Tweet might include sensitive content’ often pops up when you’re scrolling down your home feed on Twitter, then you probably have Twitter’s sensitive content warning turned on.

You can change the sensitive content setting on Twitter’s web version as well as on the Android app. However, this option isn’t available in the Twitter app for iPad and iPhone.

Let’s take a closer look at the process on the different devices:

On the Desktop Site

The following steps will help you turn off the sensitive content setting on Twitter:

Step 1: Launch your favorite browser and log in to Twitter

On your desktop, go to Twitter.com

Enter your email, phone, password, and username.

Click on the login button to log in to your account.

Step 2: Go to Settings and privacy

Click on the Profile icon in the top right corner of the navigation bar.

The account info menu will open.

Scroll down until you see the ‘Settings and privacy’ option. Click on it to go to your ‘Settings.’

Step 3: Click on Privacy and Safety

On the Settings page, you’ll see various options like Your account, Privacy and Safety, Security and Account Access, etc.

Select Privacy and Safety.

Step 4: Choose ‘Content you see’

On the Privacy and Safety page, you’ll see three section headings: Data sharing and Off-Twitter activity,  Learn more about privacy on Twitter, and Your Twitter Activity.

Choose the ‘Content you see’ option under ‘Your Twitter Activity’. This option allows you to select what you see on Twitter depending on your preferences, such as interests and topics. It allows you to turn off sensitive content as well.

Step 5: Disable sensitive content

Finally, you need to turn the sensitive content setting on to remove the sensitive content warning.

Toggle on the ‘Display media that may contain sensitive content’ box.

If you leave the box unchecked, then you won’t see sensitive media on Twitter. However, by ticking the box, you’ll start seeing sensitive content.

What Is Considered Sensitive Content?

By default, sensitive content on Twitter is restricted with messages such as ‘The following media contains potentially sensitive content’ and ‘This media may include sensitive information’.

But what is sensitive content? It includes the following:

  • Graphic violence, such as gruesome media that shows surgical procedures, serious injury, death, or violence. This also includes instances where someone is sexually violated, bodily harmed, dismembered or mutilated, tortured, or killed.
  • Hateful images such as symbols, logos, or images whose purpose is to promote malice and hostility against others based on their religion, ethnicity/national origin, sexual orientation, race, or disability.

It also includes symbols that have historical significance like the Nazi swastika, images photoshopped to depict hateful symbols or others as less than human, or photoshopped references indicating a genocide.
  • Adult content that shows nudity, or is pornographic and is aimed to cause sexual arousal.
