How to Power on Your ASUS Laptop

Not all laptops are created equal. This can cause problems when you’ve purchased a new laptop, like an ASUS laptop you aren’t 100% sure how to work. Before you can do anything else, you’ll need to know how to turn the laptop on.

You can turn an ASUS laptop on by using the power button. The power button should be located on the top right of your keyboard. If the power button doesn’t work, your laptop may be out of battery, or the button could be dirty. Charge and clean your laptop before pressing the button again.

Is your laptop still not turning on? It could be broken. Let’s look at some of the ways to troubleshoot when your ASUS laptop won’t turn on.

How Do You Turn On an ASUS Laptop?

Asus

Most laptops use a power button. ASUS is no exception. On most ASUS laptops the power button will be on the upper right hand portion of the keyboard.

ASUS does produce different laptops however, so if you don’t see the power button in the right hand corner, then you may want to reference your owner’s manual to see if it is located elsewhere.

The power button is the normal way to power up or turn off your laptop and if it doesn’t work, your laptop may be experiencing a problem.

What To Do If Your Laptop Won’t Turn On

When the power button does not work, it could indicate several problems. The good news is, the most common problems are relatively easy to fix by yourself.

Battery Problems

If you have had your laptop for a while, you may have noticed that the battery degrades with time. For example, you may have to charge it more frequently and for longer periods. So, when your laptop refuses to power up, connect it to its charger. If your laptop boots up fine, you know that the problem is the battery.

Eventually, the battery will die completely. When that happens, the only solution is to keep your laptop powered with the charger or replace the battery. Most users opt for the former, as the latter can be costly. For example, a new battery that the original company manufactures can cost as much as a newer laptop.

You could always get a cheap knockoff battery. However, these batteries don’t tend to last for long.

Keyboard Gunk And Funk

Many people don’t maintain their laptop keyboards. Unfortunately, in time, laptop keyboards can get dirty. The gunk makes its way down and under the keyboard keys. Then, the affected key will stop functioning when enough has built up that the key can’t be pressed.

Cleaning your keyboard can remedy this problem.

Spills

Anyone who has lost a keyboard to soda or coffee will be uncomfortably familiar with this problem.

Sometimes when something has been spilled on your computer, the keys are obviously ‘sticky.’ If that’s the case, you may need to have your computer cleaned, or replace the keyboard.

Unfortunately, it may not always be obvious that something has spilled on your laptop. If your keys don’t seem to be sticking, but the laptop won’t start up even when plugged in, you should take your computer to a technician for a second opinion.

How to Fix a ASUS Laptop Power Button

There is a solution that you can try yourself. However, it can be difficult to do right. Also, this method does not apply to mechanical keyboards.

  1. Use a small flat-tip screwdriver for popping the key off.

  2. Don’t apply pressure. Instead, use whatever tool you have as a lever to pop the key without the risk of damaging the components below.

  3. When you’ve removed the key, you will see two interlocking brackets.

  4. Now you need to use a cotton swab, moistened with 99% ethanol, to clean the brackets.

  5. Next, carefully separate the brackets and clean the rubber button beneath.

  6. As for the key, rub it with a small amount of dishwashing liquid (or any soap with lemon concentrate).

  7. Relink the two brackets (this is very difficult). You must relink the brackets while also replacing the key at the same time. Ask for professional help if you can’t get it on your own.

  8. Try powering up the laptop again.

How Do You Know if Your Laptop is Broken?

Unfortunately, sometimes your laptop won’t start up because it is broken.

Before coming to any conclusions, you should take their laptop in for a second opinion. A technician may be able to find something you missed.

They will look at the computer and reset the BIOS battery manually. Next, they will likely remove the hard drive and any disk drives, reconnect the laptop and try turning it back on.

If you are lucky, they will receive some error prompt indicating the computer is working but something is technologically wrong. They will be able to run more tests and let you know the fate of your laptop. If they are unable to turn the laptop on, they can direct you what you should do next.
