Here’s How To Hide An Instagram Post From Someone

Whether it’s because you prefer privacy or are dealing with a particularly aggressive follower, it’s sometimes necessary to be more selective with who gets to see your Instagram content. So, how can you hide an Instagram post from from someone?

While you can’t technically hide your Instagram posts from another user, you can prevent them from viewing your posts by making your account private. If you prefer not to make your account private, you can block the user in question or remove them from your followers list.

If you’d like to keep your posts private and away from prying eyes, you’re not alone. Let’s get into the details and look at how you can prevent someone from viewing your posts.

Can You Hide an Instagram Post?

Unfortunately, you can’t hide individual Instagram posts from just some of your followers. Unlike other social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram doesn’t offer the option to hide posts.

Currently, you can only hide Instagram stories from a few followers.

Nonetheless, there are some other options you can use to keep things more private on Instagram.

How to Block An Account From Seeing Your Instagram Post

Here are the primary ways to prevent an account from seeing your Instagram posts:

Make Your Profile Private

Making your account private limits the people who can see your old and new Instagram posts. To set your account to private, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Instagram app on your device and log into your account.
  2. Click on the profile icon on the bottom-right side of the screen.
  3. Tap on the hamburger icon (the three horizontal lines) in the top-right corner and select “Settings.”
  4. Go to “Privacy” and toggle on the “Private account” option.
  5. Click on “Switch to private” to confirm. Now, only your followers can see your posts.

Block the Follower

This method can be effective, especially if you don’t want to make your account private. When you block the account, the user won’t be notified that you’ve blocked them.

Here’s how to block someone on Instagram:

  1. Go to the “Explore” page and type the account name of the person you want to block in the search bar.
  2. Tap the name and click on the three vertical dots icon on the top-right corner of the screen of the person’s profile.
  3. Select “Block” and confirm. The person won’t be able to see your posts or stories, and they won’t be able to contact you again.

Remove the Account From Your Followers List

Another way to hide all your current and future Instagram posts from someone is to remove them as a follower. As long as you have a private account, as we discussed above, they won’t have access to your posts since they won’t be part of your followers list.

Moreover, they won’t notice that you made a change unless they search your profile.

To remove an account from your followers, launch the Instagram app and proceed with the following:

  1. Click on the profile icon on the bottom-right side of the screen.
  2. Click on “Followers,” and you’ll see the complete list of your followers.
  3. Tap “Remove” next to the follower you want to remove. There you have it!

Can You Tell if Someone Has Blocked You From Viewing Their Post?

Yes, you can tell if someone has blocked you from viewing their posts on Instagram. Finding out for sure is quite easy. The following are some ways to check:

Use Another Device or Instagram Account

The easiest way to confirm if someone has blocked you on Instagram is to check from another account or device. If you have a second account, look up the account in question, and if you find the profile, they’ve probably blocked you.

Search for Their Profile

The first way to tell if someone has blocked you on Instagram is to search for their profile. If the profile is public, and you can see their photos and videos, they haven’t blocked you. If the person’s account is private and you see the message, “This account is private,” they haven’t blocked you. Follow them to see their posts.

However, if you can see the person’s profile and the number of posts they have shared but can’t see their posts in the display area, the person may have manually prevented you from seeing their posts.

Check Your Comments

Instagram doesn’t delete old comments or tags from your account, even if someone blocks you. If you can’t find them after searching but you still see their comments on your post, tap their name. If it takes you to their page and you can see their post count, but no posts are displayed, it means that the person has blocked you.

Search In a Web Browser

Normally, the link to everybody’s Instagram profile on a web browser is instagram.com/username. To confirm if someone has blocked you, replace “username” with the person’s actual Instagram handle. If you see an error message saying, “Sorry, this page isn’t available,” it’s likely that they’ve blocked you.

It could also be that the person has deactivated or deleted their account. To confirm whether that’s the case, search again in an incognito window on your browser. If you can see their profile, you can be sure they’ve blocked you. If not, then the person may have deactivated or deleted their account.

Can You Unblock Someone From Viewing Your Post?

Yes, you can unblock someone you’ve blocked on Instagram. When you block someone, they usually end up on the “blocked accounts” list in your settings. This list displays all the people you’ve blocked and unblocked from the list.

Unblocking someone is pretty straightforward, but you should be cautious to avoid accidentally selecting the wrong account. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Click on the hamburger icon on the top right corner of your profile page and select “Settings.”
  2. Go to “Privacy” and select “Blocked accounts” to view the people you’ve previously blocked.
  3. Tap “Unblock” next to the account you want to unblock.
  4. Select “Unblock” again when prompted to confirm your choice. The person will regain access to your account.
